Southern New Hampshire University, STEM Librarian



Southern New Hampshire University's traditional campus is currently seeking a STEM Librarian. This full-time 12-month library faculty position reports to the Dean of the Shapiro Library. The STEM Librarian serves as a College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA) liaison and member of the library’s faculty team to develop and deliver a range of innovative library services that facilitate the curricular and research needs of students and faculty in STEM disciplines across all SNHU academic units. This individual provides beginning through advanced level support for searching scientific databases, participates in regular reference/research service for all students, collaborates with colleagues and disciplinary faculty to develop, promote and provide library instruction and information literacy initiatives across the university.
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
•             Provide and promote information literacy instruction, particularly in the STEM disciplines
•             Participate in instructional design of online and traditional courses. Develop effective research assignments, and online research guides and tutorials
•             Assess learning outcomes and contribute overall to assessment of library instruction, services, programs, and other initiatives
•             Provide research assistance through traditional and innovative means in accordance with the library's mission and user service guidelines
•             Collaboratively develop library programs and outreach initiatives that support faculty and students in the STEM disciplines
•             Participate in collection development in support of assigned STEM fields, including policy, selection, and weeding. Conduct collection analyses and participate in accreditation and self-study activities
•             Monitor scholarly publishing trends and their impact on information and library services to STEM students and faculty
•             Serve the library and university through participation on campus-wide committees, including leadership of selected committees
•             Participate in scholarly and professional activities including publication of journal articles and book reviews and presentations at regional and national professional conferences that contribute to the practice of academic librarianship
Minimum Qualifications:
•             Work requires a M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. from an American Library Association accredited institution or foreign equivalent
•             Knowledge of electronic and traditional resources and trends in library services in STEM disciplines
•             Expertise using library systems, including research databases and discovery systems
•             Knowledge of information literacy and instructional techniques
•             Knowledge of bibliometric and other tools related to scholarly communications
Preferred Qualifications:
•             Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline, or two years of experience working with STEM faculty and students, or equivalent experience
•             Second Master's degree in an academic discipline, in the sciences, or a related field, or advanced coursework in Library Science
Work Hours:
Typically Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, with some evening/weekend hours required in support of library and university needs. Schedule may be adjusted as needed to support academic programs.
