Town of Brentwood, Library Director

Town of Brentwood NH       June 25, 2017

The Trustees of the Mary E. Bartlett Library are seeking an energetic, creative individual with excellent interpersonal, leadership, and technical skills to join our library family in the key leadership role of Library Director.

The Bartlett Library is the town library for Brentwood, NH, a growing seacoast-area town with a current population of about 5,000. Named NH Library of the Year in 2014 by the NH Library Trustee Association, the library is the heartbeat of our thriving community, and offers a welcoming space for patrons of all ages who are in search of a great book, an interesting movie, enriching and entertaining programs, or friendly conversation.  We are not a quiet library; our staff rarely needs to shhhh! visitors. We pride ourselves in being an integral community resource, with an active and highly engaged Friends of the Library group, strong community support, and a devoted Board of Trustees.

The Library Director reports to the elected Board of Trustees, and provides strong leadership to a dedicated library team. The Director performs professional and administrative duties across a full range of library services including personnel management, programming, budget preparation, collection development, community relations, and facilities management. The Director serves as the spokesperson for the library in the Brentwood community and represents the library in interactions with town officials; its a highly visible leadership role.

A Masters in Library Science or a related degree is preferred, but not required. Significant library management experience, direct staff management experience, developing and maintaining an annual operating budget, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency with library and office technologies, and the ability to keep pace with digital trends are all required. A can do spirit, and a curious mindset to round out your existing database of knowledge and library experience, along with a genuine interest to engage with and help patrons find what theyre looking for even when they themselves may not be sure what it is--- are also essential to this role.

Were not looking for a superhero with a cape; were seeking an experienced leader who is comfortable wearing the variety of hats the role of Library Director typically entails.

This is a full time, 40 hours per week position. Were offering a salary range of $48,000-$52,000 plus a generous benefits package that includes health and dental insurance and participation in the NH Retirement System.
