Children’s Librarian, Seabrook Library, Seabrook NH

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:   This is a full-time position responsible for providing library services and resources for children. This role involves planning and implementing programs, assisting with research and reference inquiries, promoting literacy, creating a love of reading, and creating a welcoming and engaging environment for young library patrons.  Occasional circulation desk coverage is also required.  Reports to the Director.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  MLS degree preferred.  Experience working with children of all ages, as well as parents/caregivers.  Library experience is preferred, but not required.  A combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skill, and ability may be considered.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

·         Demonstrated ability to relate to and maintain discipline among children, to communicate effectively with them and their parents.

·         Ability to work independently.

·         Knowledge of computers, library automation systems, and familiarity with audiovisual and office equipment.

·         Ability to pass SAU 21 criminal background check per RSA 189:13-a.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

 

·         Plans, promotes and conducts programs for children and their families.

·         Provides readers with advisory and reference services.

·         Develops, weeds, and maintains the collection of all materials for the youth department in conjunction with the selection policy.

·         Develops and maintains the library website page for youth, as well as the calendar of events.

·         Creates inviting displays and exhibits to stimulate interest in the library and youth services collection.

·         Communicates with other libraries, local schools, home-schooling families, and other community organizations to promote library services and collections.

·         Attends professional meetings at the discretion of the Director.

·         Assists at the circulation desk.

·         Perform other duties as requested by the Director.

 

 

 

40 hours per week, Monday -Friday, with one evening and a Saturday on rotation.
