Adult Services Library Assistant - (Part-Time), Springvale Public Library, Springvale, (ME)

 

Our Library is a small village library that prides itself on its warm welcoming environment. We have a small and tight-knit group of staff that are supportive, collaborative, and full of positive energy. We are looking for that special person to join our team. 

 


 Job Qualifications:

 

The candidate will possess sound judgment, initiative, tact, courtesy and communicate effectively with patrons and staff.  Knowledge of library principles, methods, techniques, procedures, and reader interests is preferred.  The candidate pays attention to detail and has the ability to work positively as a team with a small staff, changing jobs, and focusing to best meet the needs of the patrons.  Candidate must feel comfortable with social media

 

College education or an equivalent combination of experience and training is preferred.  Must be able to work Thursdays, Fridays, alternating Saturdays, and the evening of the second Tuesday of the month.  Benefits include earned vacation, sick, and holiday.

Circulation Desk:

 

Greets and assists to library users according to their needs and performs a wide range of clerical public contact duties.

 

Uses library automated circulation system to lend materials to library users including checking materials in and out, processing holds, registering borrowers, collecting fees, informing patrons of the status of their accounts, and conveying information about library policy.

 

Opens and closes library building, prepares and counts money, keeps daily records of circulation and activities, and answers telephone.

 

Instruct patrons needing help on library computers.

 

Assists patrons using library equipment, performing basic troubleshooting on copiers and computers.

Library Assistant, Part-time, Springvale Public Library, Springvale (ME)

Job Title: Library Assistant Up to 12 Hours/Week

Summary of Responsibilities:
Interacts directly with library users at the circulation, and performs a variety of professional, clerical, and technology tasks.

Immediate Supervisor: Library Director.

Job Qualifications: The candidate will possess sound judgment, initiative, tact, and courtesy and communicates effectively with patrons and staff.  Knowledge of library principals, methods, techniques, procedures, and reader interests.  Pays attention to detail and has the ability to work as a team with a small staff, changing jobs, and focus to best meet the needs of the patrons.  Candidate must feel comfortable brainstorming adult library programming and following through all the steps to make it successful.

College education required or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Must be able to work evenings, Fridays, and Saturdays.  Scheduled hours are Tuesday 4-7; Fri. 9-1; and every other Sat. 9-2.  Hourly wage is $12.00.  Benefits include earned vacation, sick, and holiday.  Emailed applications will be accepted until the end of the day, November 13, 2020.

  • Opens and closes library building, prepares and counts money, keeps daily records of circulation and activities, answers telephone.
  • Instruct patrons needing help on library computers.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Assists patrons using library equipment, performing basic maintenance on copiers and computers.
  • Handles Interlibrary Loan requests.

Reference and Reader’s Advisory:

  • Answers reference questions and conducts research as needed
  • Assists patrons in the selection and interpretation of library materials.

Assists with Library Program:

  • Helps develop and implement adult library programming
  • Conducts education and training of patrons and patron groups.
  • Attends workshops, meetings, and conferences as appropriate.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by senior staff
