Reference and Community Services Librarian (17.5 hours), Billerica Public Library, Billerica, MA

The Town of Billerica seeks a friendly, dependable, independent, and detail-oriented candidate to serve as a Reference and Community Services Librarian. This position plays a key role in extending the Library’s presence into the community.

Duties/Description:
- Facilitates access to library materials in all available formats and provides expert guidance to patrons of all ages requesting information or on-the-spot assistance with technology
- Proposes, plans, and oversees the Library’s community outreach programs to fully integrate the Library into the community
- Distributes print marketing materials to various locations in town
- Manages Beanstack and coordinates with the vendor
- Selects library materials for purchase in assigned areas
- Attends workshops, trainings, and conferences, and participates in professional development activities
- Other job functions as assigned

Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
A Master’s Degree in Library Science in a program accredited by the American Library Association. Minimum of one to two years’ experience in library work preferred.

Strong public service commitment along with a high degree of initiative, independence and excellent interpersonal skills; ability to exercise judgment in dealing effectively with diverse constituencies in a responsive manner; ability to set priorities and manage time effectively; ability to collaborate and communicate effectively; positive attitude a must.

Benefits:

Included prorated paid time off.

Hiring Wage Range:
$28.96 - $39.56 /hour in 9 steps.

Other Considerations/Requirements:
17.5-hour work week includes every other Saturday and one Sunday per month. Schedule is Tuesdays 4pm-9pm; Wednesdays 9am-2pm; Fridays/Saturdays 9am-5pm.

Youth Services Assistant (Seasonal/Casual), Billerica Public Library, Billerica, MA

The Town of Billerica seeks outgoing, enthusiastic, and qualified applicants to fill a seasonal Youth Services Assistant position at the Billerica Public Library, leading up to and during the Library's busy Summer Reading Challenge.

The Youth Services Assistant will perform a variety of tasks in the Children’s Room. Primary tasks include:

- Providing expert assistance to children and their caregivers with locating and using materials and resources in the Children’s Room
- Overseeing the use of the Children’s Room in compliance with established policies and procedures
- Developing and conducting programs, including storytimes, for children and their caregivers
- Participating in the maintenance of the collection and special projects as assigned by the Supervisor of Youth Services

Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
High school diploma/equivalency required. The successful candidate will have experience working with children, excellent communication skills, be computer literate, work well with the public and library staff, and be able to solve problems and work independently. Previous library and/or teaching experience required.

Hiring Wage Range:
$19.79 - $27.00/hour

Other Considerations/Requirements:
Schedule may include days, evenings, and occasional weekends. Hours through the end of August 2026 may range from 8 to 19 per week, depending on the Library’s specific coverage needs. Occasional opportunities to serve as a substitute during the year may be available.

Library Page (16 hours), Billerica Public Library, Billerica, MA

The Town of Billerica seeks a friendly, dependable, independent, and detail-oriented candidate to serve as a library page. Library pages play a key role in keeping the library’s collections organized and discoverable and assist with item retrieval.

Primary tasks include:
- Shelving books and non-print items according to the Dewey Decimal system
- Retrieving items for interlibrary loan
- Checking shelves for items presumed lost or missing
- Shelf reading assigned collection areas
- Keeping shelves and collections neat and clean
- Assisting with opening or closing the building

Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
Must be 16 years of age or older. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of being able to work independently and experience demonstrating attention to detail. Must also enjoy working with the public.

Benefits:
Includes prorated paid time off.

Hiring Wage Range:
$16.02 / hour

Other Considerations/Requirements:
Schedule will include days and evenings with the starting schedule being Wednesdays 3pm-8pm, Thursdays 1pm-6pm, and Fridays 9am-3pm. Schedule is set by the Library Director or designee. Additional hours may occasionally be available.

Supervisor of Circulation, Billerica Public Library, Billerica, MA

 

Job Description: Due to a promotion, the Town of Billerica seeks an innovative and energetic individual to fill the position of Supervisor of Circulation. This highly visible position manages the operations of the Library’s busy Circulation Desk and main floor, including supervising Circulation Assistants and Library Pages, overseeing interlibrary loan services, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of the patron database, participating in homebound delivery services, and contributing to the Library’s marketing and display activities.

 

Additionally, the Supervisor of Circulation ensures all stacks are well maintained and organized, participates in outreach initiatives, and supports collection development and readers advisory activities. 

 

Schedule: 37.5-hour work week. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 9am-5pm; Wednesdays, 1pm-9pm; and alternating Fridays and Saturdays, 9am-5pm. One Sunday per month from 1pm-5pm is also required.

 

Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in Library Science in a program accredited by the American Library Association and a minimum of 3 years supervisory and professional experience.

 

Salary Range: $1,329.39 - $1,811.29  / week depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits package, including participation in the retirement system.

Circulation Assistant (20-hrs), Billerica Public Library, Billerica, MA

 

Job Description: The Town of Billerica seeks qualified applicants for a part-time (20 hours per week) Circulation Assistant position at the Billerica Public Library. The Circulation Assistant provides excellent customer service to all patrons in person and over the phone. The duties of this position consist of various circulation tasks, including checking materials in and out, registering new patrons, collection maintenance, and interlibrary loan. Duties will also include material processing and readers advisory.

 

Must work well with library patrons and display a positive and professional attitude. Performs other related library duties as required.

 

Schedule: 20-hour work week. Wednesdays, 1pm-9pm; Thursdays, 4pm-9pm; and alternating Fridays and Saturdays, 9am-5pm. One Sunday per month from 1pm-5pm is also required.

 

Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalency is required, but a college degree is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, work well with the public and library staff, and be able to solve problems and work independently. Previous library experience is strongly preferred.

 

Salary: $371.11  / week

 

Salary Notes: Followed by 9 steps with an excellent benefits package, including participation in the retirement system.

Assistant Library Director, Billerica Public Library, Billerica, MA

 

Job Description: The Town of Billerica seeks an innovative and energetic individual to fill the position of Assistant Library Director. This highly visible position assists the Library Director in administrating and evaluating all library functions and services, including budget and personnel management, setting goals and objectives, scheduling all personnel, overseeing volunteers, and liaising with the Town’s Facilities Department. 

Additionally, the Assistant Library Director oversees adult programming, serves as the Head of the Reference Department and ensures that the department effectively meets the community's information and technical support needs.
