Information Desk Manager, Lamson Library, Plymouth State University, Plymouth, New Hampshire

The Information Desk Manager is responsible for managing library circulation functions and all front-line patron assistance to university and community patrons at Plymouth State University's Lamson Library. Reporting to the Reference and Instruction Librarian, the Information Desk Manager works with a highly collaborative team of library staff and faculty to ensure excellent library patron service, maintain circulation systems and procedures, and coordinate Course Reserves. The Information Desk Manager supervises a team of student workers that is the friendly, welcoming face of Lamson Library, providing patron services at the library’s Information Desk that includes opening and closing the building, checking out/in library materials and equipment loans, and providing technical support for library patrons.

This is a 12-month, full time, fully-benefited staff position. Working hours will vary and may include evenings, weekends, and during campus curtailment.

Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
Bachelor’s or Associate degree, or two years of comparable library and/or higher education experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

--Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service. 
--Strong collaborative, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
--Supervisory ability and a willingness to develop this skill set.

Other Considerations/Requirements:
Preferred Qualifications:

--Experience working in a library and/or in a higher education environment.
--Experience supervising student employees.
--Ability to problem-solve issues with technology.
--Knowledge and skills related to working within the Microsoft Office tools and other basic office technologies.
--Experience with library applications such as O.C.L.C. WorldShare Management Services and SpringShare LibApps.

Hiring Wage Range:
$45,790.00 - $81,530.00

Youth Services Librarian, Pease Public Library, Plymouth, New Hampshire

 Job Description: Performs administrative, and professional work in planning, organizing, and coordinating activities of the Library Children’s Department. Performs all other related duties as required.

-Plans, coordinates, and implements programming for children and young adults. These programs consist of storytime, crafts, educational activities, and resources for children and their adult caregivers.
-Manages the materials collection for children, young adults, and parenting books, which includes weeding, using book review resources and purchasing materials.
-Provides customer services in the form of answering patron emails, providing reader’s advisory, helping patrons find materials, computer and other technology instruction and helping with databases and websites.
-Maintains the circulation desks tasks (checking books in and out, pulling holds, registering patrons, and checking out museum passes.)
-Supervises the daily operation of the children’s room and the young adult area. Upholds the library’s behavior and child safety policies.   
-Facilitates promotional materials for children’s and young adult programming. Maintains the children and young adult sections of the library website.
-Compiles and submits statistics to Director for programming. May assist with Youth Services sections of the State Library Report and town Annual Report.
-Performs outreach to schools and other local agencies for programming, especially summer reading program.
-Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

Supervision:
Supervision Scope: This position performs various duties requiring a thorough knowledge of departmental operations and the ability to complete assigned tasks according to established procedures and protocol.

Supervision Received: Work is performed under the general direction of the Library Director.

Supervision Given:
Youth Services Assistant, as well as volunteers and/or interns, as available.

Education, Training and Experience: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science preferred. Bachelor’s degree in education or library science required; three to five years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of library practices, procedures, and techniques. Knowledge of youth literature and reading programs and activities. Working knowledge of the policies, laws, and regulations pertaining to library services. Working knowledge of library technology.

Ability: Ability to work with library customers and staff in a friendly, efficient manner. Ability to listen and communicate effectively. Ability to use computerized library systems and related equipment. Ability to think strategically. Ability to interpret and follow policies and procedures and to operate standard office equipment.  

Skill: Excellent customer service skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer skills; interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Librarian Cataloger, Pease Public Library, Plymouth, NH

The Pease Public Library in Plymouth, NH is seeking a Librarian Cataloger with excellent communication skills. Applicants must be able to demonstrate flexibility, good judgement and good humor under varying circumstances. The ability to multi-task and provide quality customer service is essential. Must be a community-oriented, hands-on team player. Some Saturday and evening hours are required.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Responsible for cataloging which includes creating records in the library database for each item the library acquires.  This includes books, DVDs, audiobooks, magazines, and other items such as puzzles.
-MARC records are created using a specific system and requires knowledge of bibliographic standards for metadata as well as Dewey Decimal Classification.
-Physically processes items being added to and withdrawn from the library collection.
-Maintains consistency in the catalog classification and processing of library materials.
-Maintains statistics on the collection inventory and technical services activity.
-Purchases all adult fiction, adult audiobooks and large print fiction and nonfiction.
-Deselects and discard materials which involves evaluating the existing collection to determine materials that are damaged, outdated, not being used, or otherwise need to be removed from the collection.
-Registers patrons for the use of the various library services, including library cards, study rooms, museum passes, book groups and library programs.
-Assists patrons in using the library’s public computers and the software available on them including Microsoft Office applications, Internet browsers, printers, and scanners.
-Answers in-depth, complex reference questions in person, by phone and using email.
-Helps patrons locate materials by placing holds, initiating inter-library requests, and processing purchase requests.
-Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
-Keeps abreast of best practices in public libraries and works to bring all departments in line with those benchmarks.

Job Environment:
-Work is performed under typical office and library conditions; the noise level is moderately noisy.  
-Operates computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment.
-Employee has frequent contact with the general public, patrons, libraries, and community groups. Contacts are in person, via email or by telephone and involve an information exchange dialogue.
-Errors could result in delays or loss of library services, and/or poor public relations.

Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to walk, bend, reach, stand, sit, talk, and hear; operate objects, tools, or controls; pick up paper, files, and other common office objects. Ability to view computer screens and work with details for extended periods of time. May move objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to communicate. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.

Circulation Assistant (Seasonal), Pease Public Library, Plymouth, NH

The Pease Public Library in Plymouth, NH is seeking a self-motivated team player for a seasonal position of Circulation Assistant. The ideal candidate will have some college education and can demonstrate flexibility and good judgment under varying circumstances. The ability to multi-task and provide quality customer service is essential. Must be a community-oriented, hands-on worker. This is a 14-week seasonal employment starting July 1, 2025 going through the end of August, with the flexibility to continue in late-December through end of January. Saturday hours on a rotating schedule are required.

Educate patrons about electronic resources, such as NH Downloadable Books
Other duties as assigned

The Pease Public Library in Plymouth, NH is seeking a Youth Services Librarian with excellent communication skills. Applicants must be able to demonstrate flexibility, good judgment and good humor under varying circumstances. The ability to multi-task and provide quality customer service is essential. Must be a community-oriented, hands-on team player. Must be prepared to attend staff meetings, remain current on professional trends and assist in planning team projects. Some Saturday and evening hours are required. Must enjoy working with children, teens and their families.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
-Plans, coordinates, and implements programming for children and young adults such as weekly story time for those under 6, science programs, summer reading program, and having outside presenters.  These programs consist of music and movement, crafts, educational activities, and resources for children and their adult caregivers.
-Enhances the programs of local schools by providing complementary services.
-Manages the materials collection for children and young adults which includes weeding, using book review resources and purchasing materials. Catalogs and processes materials for children and young adults, gifts, and purchases.
-Provides customer services in the form of answering patron emails, providing reader’s advisory, helping patrons find materials, computer and other technology instruction and helping with OverDrive.
-Performs routine circulation desks tasks*
-Supervises the daily operation of the children’s room and the young adult room.  Upholds the library’s behavior and child safety policies.   
-Creates promotional materials for children’s and young adult programming.  Maintains the children and young adult sections of the library website and posts on social media regarding children and young adult programming.
-Compiles programming statistics and submits statistics to Director.
-Performs outreach to schools and other local agencies for programming, especially summer reading program.
-Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
