General Summary of Position:

The University Library at UMass Lowell strives to provide excellent library service in a dynamic, responsive, and inclusive environment. A vital part of the team, the Access Services Manager/Librarian is a leader who will contribute thoughtful and innovative suggestions for appropriate policy decisions; engage in meaningful assessment and planning; develop documentation for policies, procedures, and training; supervise staff; and oversee building operations. The Access Services Manager/Librarian reports directly to the Head of Access Services, collaborates with all library staff, and liaises with other campus colleagues as well as external partners.

The Access Services Manager/Librarian supervises Access Services staff and operations at Lydon Library and is a key member of the University Library’s Access Services leadership team. They help shape the vision for the continuous improvement of Access Services and participate in strategic planning, coordinate communications for Access Services, and serve as a point person for Lydon Library building operations and Access Services systems operations.

Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
- Education: MLS with 3-5 years of experience in an academic library, or bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years relevant, supervisory experience in an academic library
- Experience with online integrated library systems, such as OCLC WorldShare or comparable system
- Proficiency with Interlibrary Loan platforms, e.g., ILLiad, RAPID, ReprintsDesk, and Article Exchange
- Expert knowledge of library principles and policies and extensive knowledge of specialized area functions and workflows
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- Evidence of working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community; commitment to providing equitable service to a diverse population
- Demonstrated critical thinking and independent decision-making skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and projects
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; must be detailed oriented and organized
- Ability to exercise discretion and ensure a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Verified ability to utilize multiple computer applications toward increased productivity in a rapidly changing environment (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access); knowledge of standard office equipment

Preferred Qualifications:
- Facility with Springshare Libapps, including Libguides and Libwizard
- Knowledge of copyright best practices as needed for work in interlibrary loan services, course reserves, and digitization requests

Hiring Wage Range:
This is an SEIU 888 Professional Union position, Grade P18.

Assistant Director and Head of Adult Services - Pollard Memorial Library, Lowell, MA

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may
be assigned.

Under the direction of the Library Director:
Performs administrative and supervisory work in assisting in the operation of the Library.
Assists the Library Director in administrative, professional, and supervisory duties.
As Head of Adult Services, supervises Reference Department.
Assists in all phases of collection development as assigned by the Director.
Assists the Library Director in the supervision of all departments of the library and keeps the Library Director informed about scheduling problems and staffing needs; Assists with staff development and training programs.
Keeps up to date on new trends in public services and provides leadership in their
implementation.
Provides back-up support at public service desks as needed.
Represents the Library to the public, especially when dealing with public service issues; May include attendance at community meetings and events.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):

MLS from an ALA accredited library school required; plus (5) years’ experience in adult
services in a public library, including (3) years of supervisory work with increasing
responsibility and (l) year of administration experience.

Commitment to public service in a large, urban library; experience in community outreach
programs and public relations preferred; demonstrated attention to detail. Must possess valid driver's license (or be able to obtain one) with an acceptable driving history. The Assistant Director must have a good knowledge of all aspects of public library service.

Demonstrated ability to supervise staff at all levels; ability to communicate and work effectively and tactfully with employees and the public, to create a positive workplace environment and to present a positive public image; ability to work in a team environment; good professional judgement.

Hiring Wage Range:

$35.7973 (min) to $39.7047 (max per hour) - 35 hours. Additional masters' incentive of $2,000 will be added annually.

Bookmobile Librarian, Pollard Memorial Library, Lowell, MA

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


* Works under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Community Planning.
* Develops regular scheduled calendar of visits for outreach vehicle to sites across Lowell,
especially those serving children, seniors and underserved populations throughout the city  such as schools, parks, playgrounds, senior housing, assisted living and community centers
* Develops and coordinates off-site programs and partnerships with local organizations.
* Works collaboratively with ancillary library groups, city departments, community leaders,
agencies, non-profits, groups and vendors.
* Loads and unloads book trucks on the outreach vehicle and drives vehicle to facilities.
* Develops regular maintenance schedule and coordinates repairs for outreach vehicle.
* Performs collection development and maintenance for the outreach vehicle.
* Maintains outreach circulation records. Receives and processes requests, processes library card applications, checks out materials, handles overdue problems and returns.
* Receives and responds to queries and requests.
* Develops outreach activities to promote library programming, resources and services.
*Promotes new and existing library resources and services in person and through print, web
and other media.
* Provides excellent customer service by assisting patrons at outreach visits with identifying
requested library materials and using library resources.

* Creates marketing materials for the library programs and services using desktop
publishing software, email marketing software, and graphic design applications.
* Assists the operations of the home bound and outreach delivery services.
* Manages and updates library’s website, online calendars, and social media.
* Writes press releases, reports and memos using MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
* Performs public speaking to diverse audiences by leading tours, introducing speakers and
managing programming at various library events.
* Works collaboratively with ancillary library groups, city departments, community
leaders, agencies, non-profits, groups and vendors.
* Is conversant and interested in emerging library technology and services and their real
world application for staff and patrons.
* Assists in collection development.
* Staffs the Reference Desk as needed.
* Provides excellent customer service by assisting patrons with identifying requested
library materials and using library resources.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

Youth Services Librarian, Pollard Memorial Library, Lowell, MA

Schedule:             

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9am-1pm

Tuesday and Thursday 1pm-5pm

Pay Rate:             $26.50 - $28.50 per hour, based on experience.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities include the following:

  • Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Youth Services, provides information services in the Youth Services department
  • Assists patrons in all aspects of youth reference and reader’s advisory services
  • Maintains and promotes youth services by participating in collection development, including weeding and facilitating access to materials
  • Participates in cooperative meetings concerned with youth services
  • Performs other related and comparable duties related to youth services
  • Takes responsibility for youth service questions, follow up, and other patron desired services
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reports To: Director; Assistant Director; Coordinator of Youth Services
