Youth Services Librarian, Pollard Memorial Library, Lowell, MA

 

Start date:          As soon as possible

End date:             December 1, 2023

Schedule:             

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9am-1pm

Tuesday and Thursday 1pm-5pm

Pay Rate:             $26.50 - $28.50 per hour, based on experience.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities include the following:

  • Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Youth Services, provides information services in the Youth Services department
  • Assists patrons in all aspects of youth reference and reader’s advisory services
  • Maintains and promotes youth services by participating in collection development, including weeding and facilitating access to materials
  • Participates in cooperative meetings concerned with youth services
  • Performs other related and comparable duties related to youth services
  • Takes responsibility for youth service questions, follow up, and other patron desired services
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reports To: Director; Assistant Director; Coordinator of Youth Services

Education and/or Experience:

MLS from an ALA-accredited library school required; ability to work with a diverse urban population an asset; experience with an automated library system (Symphony/WorkFlows) and electronic services preferred.

Language Skills

Applicants with skills in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Khmer and other languages present in Lowell encouraged to apply. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
