Youth Services Librarian (F/T), Wiggin Memorial Library, Stratham, New Hampshire

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Under the general direction of the Head of Youth Services, but with the appropriate amount of independence, plans, coordinates, and implements programming for children, young adults, and families. Assists in creating and supporting the library's Summer Reading Program as well as other large, well established youth programs. 
* Facilitates at least one storytime per week. Day, time, age group and overall theme should fit within the Youth Department’s overall plans and should be coordinated with the Head of Youth Services. Filling in for additional storytimes during the week may be required due to scheduling needs. 
* Provides regular outreach to schools and other local organizations to champion library programs, especially the Library’s Summer Reading Program.
* Assists with collection development for Youth Services including but not limited to, collection maintenance, weeding, or other processing and shifting projects. Materials selection using review sources may also be required.

CIRCULATION AND PATRON SERVICES
* Provides exemplary patron service in the form of answering patron calls, emails, and in person questions; provides readers’ advisory for Youth collections; helps patrons search and locate materials; assists with printer, computer, and other library technologies, museum passes, consortium requests, and digital library services including Hoopla, Overdrive, etc.
* Performs routine circulation services tasks including, but not limited to: check in and check out of materials, issuing library cards, pulling and processing library holds, answering general inquiries, scheduling meeting spaces, assisting with website and catalog usage.
* Due to varying schedules, occasionally staffs the Youth Services Department independently. 
* Maintains a safe space for patrons, upholds library's behavior and safety policies, and provides excellent customer service at all times.
* In conjunction with other Youth Services colleagues, creates promotional materials for departmental programming which may include flyers, social media posts, newsletters, email blasts, press releases, etc.
* Keeps current with Main Circulation Desk and Library opening and closing procedures, and staffs the Main Circulation Desk on rotating Saturdays and as needed. Regularly participates in library opening or closing procedures depending on schedule.

* Provides similar or related work as required, directed or as situations dictate.

Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
* 1-2 years of relevant experience with a degree in library science or other related field. Or 2-4 years experience working with children and/or teens in a library, school or other youth-focused field.
* Independent and collaborative experience with the library skills outlined in the job description. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening. Excellent interpersonal skills, including self-awareness. High comfort level with technology, including mobile devices, wifi, productivity software (ie: MS Office Suite, G-Suite), Canva, a variety of library digital subscriptions and I.L.S. software – experience with Koha, a plus.

Hiring Wage Range:
$22.36/hour @ 36 hours a week

Other Considerations/Requirements:
* Option to work a four-day workweek (Tuesday-Friday)

Youth Services Library Assistant (Part-time), Wiggin Memorial Library, Stratham, NH

EXPECTED HOURS
This 15 hour position includes working on Mondays, Thursday evenings and Fridays, as well in the Saturday rotation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Supports collection development by keeping department materials organized, shelf reading, helping with weeding, and reviewing materials for damage or replacement.
* Participates in the selection of juvenile materials as assigned
* Utilizes the library’s integrated library system software, especially the circulation module, to answer patron questions, update records, place holds for items and more.
* Assists in development and implementation of programs and events for children, teens, and families, including offering one story time per week.
* Creates dynamic, interesting, eye-catching book displays.
* Decorates youth services spaces.

CIRCULATION AND PATRON SERVICES:
* Staffs the Youth Circulation desk
* Registers new patrons and issues library cards. 
* Helps patrons locate books and navigate the library catalog. 
* Provides readers’ advisory, including recommendations from within the collection.
* Answers reference questions and promotes library events

OTHER DUTIES
* Performs such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Youth Services Department Head.

Youth Services Assistant, Wiggin Memorial Library, Stratham, NH

Job Description:
This 20 hour/wk Youth Services Assistant collaborates with the Children’s and Teen Librarians in the daily operations of the Youth Services Department. This position is responsible for providing efficient customer access to information and materials through extensive customer contact; completing tasks with accuracy and proficiency, and requires experience using office productivity software, the Internet and some technology devices

Prorated earned sick and vacation time, plus personal days.
Hiring Wage Range:
$17.50-$19.00/hour. Must be available to work all hours of library operations including evenings and some Saturdays.

Youth Services/Teen Librarian, Wiggin Memorial Library, Stratham, NH

 

The Wiggin Memorial Library (Stratham, N.H.) is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) Youth Services/Teen Librarian who is a team player and intrepid teen wrangler.  If you love working with kids of all ages, and have a special affinity for tweens and teens, we want to hear from you!

 

The Youth Services team at our library has a passion for growing lifelong library users and engaging the whole family.  Programs and services are designed to make the library a fun and welcoming community center where everyone feels included.

 

The Youth Services Librarian will enjoy working with youth ages 0-18 and their families with a focus on teens/tweens.  This person will participate in all departmental activities from collection development and programming to outreach and customer service.  We need someone who has the experience to hit the ground running.

 

Our ideal candidate will have experience in providing friendly customer service, especially with children and families.  The person will also be organized, innovative, and up-to-speed on current library trends.  Tell us how you've built good relationships with colleagues, the public, schools, and community organizations.  Show us your successful programs and projects and tell us about your favorite.  Flexibility and a sense of humor are a must!

 

Qualifications:  

An  MLIS degree from an ALA accredited program is highly preferred along with related professional library experience; or any equivalent combination of education and library experience which demonstrates the requisite knowledge and skills.  Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.  Knowledge of children's developmental stages and strong technology skills are also a must.

 

Hiring salary range is $45,000 - $46,000 depending on qualifications.
