Youth Services Programming Librarian, Samuel H. Wentworth, Sandwich, NH

Job Description:

The Samuel H. Wentworth Library is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and organized individual who enjoys working with youth of all ages to create and run our youth programs and provide occasional general library support. This is an 8 hour a week, part-time position that requires some availability after school (September to June), either a Thursday or Friday morning weekly, and one Saturday morning a month. This position is appointed by the library trustees and is supervised by the library director.
 

Requirements:

*A high school or GED degree is required. A college degree and/or coursework in elementary education is preferred.
*Experience working directly with youth is required.
*Ability to read to children with lively expression and to incorporate fingerplay and body movement within story times. Singing and/or instrumental accompaniment is a plus!
*Ability to successfully plan, implement and carry out innovative, age-appropriate children’s and Young Adult programming.
*Thorough knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, children’s literature, authors and interests.
*Knowledge of, or committed willingness to learn and master, Google Suite tools, Microsoft Office software, the Atriuum library management system and a variety of social media platforms including Facebook, Canva, Adobe and ZOOM.
*Ability to communicate and interact courteously, tactfully and efficiently with people of all ages, abilities, temperaments and backgrounds is required.
*Have the ability to read and understand titles, call numbers and dates; sort
accurately by alphabetical, numerical, chronological or Dewey Decimal order.
*A considerable ability to pay attention to detail.

Benefits/Wage:

The position is part-time, allows for some flexibility in scheduling and includes pro-rated vacation, holiday and sick benefits and reimbursement for professional development activities. It does not include health benefits.
Hourly rate of pay is $20.
 
*A positive and collaborative personal workplace philosophy is essential.
*A familiarity with the ALA Freedom to Read Statement, ALA Library Bill of Rights, and ethical principles of librarianship and willingness to learn NH library laws is a plus.
A demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, especially around technology, is required.
