Library Director, Westborough Public Library, Westborough, MA

 Job Description:

The Westborough Public Library seeks applications from qualified, enthusiastic, innovative individuals for the full-time position of Library Director. This is an opportunity to lead a library that is busy, loved by the community, and a true “heart” of the community. This position is appointed by, and reports to, a nine-member elected Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will be ready and eager to lead an enthusiastic, service-driven, high-performing team that’s currently 13 FTE that values professionalism, integrity, and responsiveness. After 14 years in the role, our current Director is taking over the Director role at the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.  The Trustees seek to have a new Director in place by mid-July.

The library is currently in the process of creating a new Strategic Plan and is in the Design Development phase of an exciting Repair Project. A new multi-age Community Center is being created in town, and there are a multitude of opportunities for collaborations with other town departments in what will be a beautiful space. An active teen advisory group of over 50 students helps guide our busy Teen Zone programming, so a candidate who can help build on that success is necessary. A desire and demonstrated capacity to be an active part of a dynamic, diverse community is needed. The ideal candidate will uphold the values of the library’s vision statement: “a comfortable and welcoming place where people of all ages and cultures come together.” Additional information about the Westborough Public Library can be found at https://www.westboroughlibrary.org.

Located 12 miles east of Worcester and 29 miles west of Boston at the intersection of Route 495, I-90 and Route 9, Westborough is a predominately residential community of about 21,000 made up of attractive neighborhoods, a vibrant downtown, an active commercial district, and a strong business/industrial base. Led by a five-member Select Board and an appointed Town Manager, Westborough is a financially stable community that boasts substantial reserves and an AAA bond rating. The Town has a rich history and a strong commitment to preserving its heritage while also providing the highest level of municipal services to its residents. Westborough is an educated community and values learning opportunities; the Westborough Public Schools are consistently ranked among the top districts in the state. The Board of Trustees oversees the library and is actively involved in the Repair Project, outreach in the community, and intellectual freedom issues. The library is also supported by an active Friends of the Library (501(c)(3)) and a not-for-profit Library Foundation.

Requirements:

The minimum qualifications for the position include a master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited college or university (MLS/MLIS) and four to ten years related experience including supervisory experience. Library or municipal construction experience is highly desired, along with MCPPO certification.

Wage Range:

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $93,444 to $126,152 as of July 1, 2024; offer at hire will be based on demonstrated qualifications and experience.
