Library Director, 20 hours per week, Shedd Free Library, Washington, (NH)

 

The Shedd Free Library in Washington, NH is seeking an organized, friendly, work-experienced library director.

Shedd Free Library was founded in 1869 in the small, scenic town of Washington, New Hampshire. Currently the library serves a population of about 1100 (plus considerable summer influx) with a media collection of almost 10,000 items and 3 computers for public use.

Primary Responsibilities

The Library Director administers, plans and oversees all aspects of library operations under the supervision and direction of the Library Trustees. These responsibilities include:

·         supervision of part time staff and volunteers

·         budgeting and expenditures

·         collection development and maintenance

·         materials processing

·         building maintenance

·         automation and the use of technology

·         program planning and implementation

·         policies, plans and procedures

·         reports and presentations

·         community relations

 

The Library Director is the primary Library ambassador to the community and represents the Library in interactions with town officials. 

 

Hours

This approximately 20-hour-a-week position includes:

·         Tuesday 10AM-5PM

·         Thursday 10AM-4PM

·         Saturday 10AM-1PM (10PM-4PM in summer)

·         Seven hours per week are allotted for administrative work and meeting requirements

·         On call hours for building emergencies

 

Qualifications

The Library Director must have a thorough knowledge of modern library policies, practices, technologies and trends. Acceptable ways to fulfill these requirements are:

·         A bachelor’s degree in Library Science

·         Completion of Basic Library Techniques classes with professional certificate of librarianship

·         Or, equivalent on-the-job experience

The candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm, creativity and innovation in promoting the Library’s mission, while demonstrating understanding and respect for the needs, interest and demands of the community. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proficiency with technology are required.
