Northfield Mount Hermon, an independent co-educational boarding school in western Massachusetts, seeks a dynamic individual to fill the role of Technical Services & E-resources Librarian beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year.
The Schauffler Library is at the heart of campus and occupies an important physical and virtual space at Northfield Mount Hermon. The Technical Services & E-resources Librarian position plays a key role in the Library team and has the opportunity to work internally with the library team, as well as externally, with the faculty, staff, and students engaged in scholarly activities.
Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an energetic self-starter to coordinate activities in the Technical Services department and manage a growing portfolio of electronic resources. Key responsibilities encompass all of the Library’s technical services functions, including acquisitions, cataloging, and processing of items in the Library’s collections, as well as maintaining the Library’s collection of electronic resources, ensuring optimal and accurate access to subscription resources, including databases, electronic journals, and e-books. Additionally, this position administers and maintains the Library's open source ILS and OPAC (Koha), provides technical support and public service support, and coordinates all aspects of collection maintenance, such as inventory of materials, deaccessioning of materials, daily stack maintenance and shelving. In conjunction with the Library Director, this position manages the Library's budget and handles communication with relevant NMH departments as well as external vendors.
This position also participates in access services work, covering regular shifts at the circulation desk; coordinates the work of student assistants during assigned shifts; provides an adult presence and help to oversee study hall one night a week; and other projects as assigned.
The successful applicant will have a Master’s degree in library science or equivalent experience and 2-3 years experience. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated capacity to work effectively with colleagues and other members of the community.
Candidates should be familiar with boarding school life and work. They also should demonstrate experience in equity and inclusion work that promotes a diverse community environment as well as clear understanding of anti-racist education. They should also have a demonstrated interest in making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents.
This position begins in mid-August 2023. Salary range for this position is: $45,000-$47,000 academic year
