Library Assistant, Durham Public Library, Durham, NH

 

A creative, outgoing, and friendly person is needed to join our dedicated staff! Candidate must enjoy working with both adults and young people; have good written and verbal communication skills; be computer literate and be comfortable assisting patrons of all ages. Familiarity with adult and youth literature and crafting is a plus!

 

The ideal candidate for this position is fun, flexible, enthusiastic, and enjoys people!

 

Pay & Hours: $18.00 per hour/15 hours per week. This part-time position requires availability one Saturday per month and one evening per week.

 

Job Summary: The primary function of this position is to float between the adult and youth services departments where the need is the greatest, assisting patrons in finding library materials and helping existing staff with various projects.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

·      Interacting with patrons and performing library circulation duties at the front desk.

·      Preparing crafts, design displays, and assisting in general upkeep of the children’s and young adult areas.

·      Demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collegially.

·      Assisting adults and young patrons in connecting with library resources.

·      Processing and shelving materials.

·      Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·      A BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university or a combination of college and relevant work experience.

·      Experience working with people of all ages.

·      Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

·      Solid computer skills including a familiarity with software applications such as Canva, Microsoft products, Adobe products and mobile devices including smartphones, e-readers, and tablets.

·      Possession of a good sense of humor.

 

Other: A full FBI background check with fingerprinting, at our expense, is required.
