The public services assistant provides reference, reader's advisory, technology training, and other assistance to library patrons. Oversees student use of the library. Supports circulation and cataloging tasks, including interlibrary loans, holds, reserves, and shelving.

This is a part-time position that requires evening and weekend hours. When school is in session, the Library typically closes at 9:30 pm.

Library Coordinator, Merrill Library -University of Maine, Machias, ME

The Merrill Library Coordinator oversees all aspects of Merrill Library, including access services, reference, instruction, and programming. As the Library’s lead representative, they are responsible for outreach to the Machias Campus. The Coordinator works to align Merrill’s services with those of Fogler Library (in Orono) by working closely and reciprocally with Fogler Library. As part of the leadership team, they advise the Dean of Libraries on Machias procedures, regulations, and needs. The Coordinator also consults with the UMM Dean and Campus Director on local campus matters and keeps them apprised of Library matters.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • American Library Association accredited Masters Degree in Library and/or Information Science.
  • Two or more years of successful experience in the management and supervision of staff engaged in service to patrons, including at least one year at a college or university library.
  • Strong written and oral communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emerging areas of librarianship, including the capabilities and future trends of service models, library technologies, and systems to maximize discovery and access to scholarly resources.
  • Proficient working knowledge of computers, software, applications, and the ability to learn and utilize a variety of library programs and ILS.

Preferred:

  • Cataloging knowledge and experience, especially original cataloging and metadata using current metadata standards, including RDA and Dublin Core.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may

Under the direction of the Library Director:
Performs administrative and supervisory work in assisting in the operation of the Library.
Assists the Library Director in administrative, professional, and supervisory duties.
As Head of Adult Services, supervises Reference Department.
Assists in all phases of collection development as assigned by the Director.

Commitment to public service in a large, urban library; experience in community outreach
programs and public relations preferred; demonstrated attention to detail. Must possess valid driver's license (or be able to obtain one) with an acceptable driving history. The Assistant Director must have a good knowledge of all aspects of public library service.

• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work collegially. 

• Plan and perform children’s and young adult programs in collaboration with the Head of Youth Services including planning, scheduling, and overseeing summer reading programs.

• Process and shelve materials and perform circulation duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• A BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university or a combination of college and relevant work experience.

• Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

We are seeking applicants for the Children's Services Librarian position at the Gilmanton Year-Round Library. Our focus is on providing excellent service to our patrons and community.
