Youth Services Librarian/Assistant Director, Maxfield Public Library, Loudon, NH

Youth Services Librarian/Assistant Director – Works independently under general supervision of the Library Director. Manages the Children's and Teen services and programs. Acts in the capacity of Director in the event of absence. Performs duties requiring substantive knowledge of library operations, such as collection development, cataloging, inventory, and weeding. Assists patrons with the use of the Library’s reference materials, general collection, and computers. Performs circulation desk duties. Pay is commensurate with experience and education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises and trains personnel and volunteers in conjunction with the Library Director.
Selects materials and develops collections by reading critical reviews, catalogs, and other pertinent materials. Drafts purchase lists. Creates carts of children’s and YA books using Baker and Taylor and Amazon for supplies. Catalogs materials. Processes new and gift materials when necessary. Initiates weeding procedures.
Posts regularly on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Keeps track of purchases in accordance with the youth services budget.
Assists borrowers with reference questions, use of general collection, and computer-related services.
Plans for long range projects such as genrefication, book sharing with the middle and high school, and summer reading program which includes gathering donations for prizes.
Writes the children’s section of the Loudon Ledger and creates fliers for programs.
Works with public schools, local organizations, and community groups.
Represents and promotes the Library in the community.
Reads and answers email and other correspondence.
Assists borrowers at the circulation desk using Atriuum. Checks and pulls reserves for children’s books.
Plans and runs storytime activities, Summer Reading Program, after school activities, and other programs for children up to age 18. Also runs family programs and community programs.
Maintains statistical databases and creates routine reports for programming numbers, youth services section of the annual report, and circulation trends.
Fills borrower requests for books, non-print materials and interlibrary loans.
Can perform clerical tasks when necessary, such as filing, writing daily reports, and maintaining fine and fee tallies.
Is authorized to submit timesheets in the director’s absence.
Can help oversee building maintenance projects in the director’s absence.
Procures supplies and materials needed for children’s activities. Prepares all materials needed for programs.
Keeps current with trends in library services for children and families.
Attends conferences and participates in professional development opportunities as initiated by self or suggested by the Director.
Maintains and decorates bulletins boards and other displays.
Acts in the capacity of Director in the event of absence.
Updates the children’s calendar on a monthly basis.
Performs all other tasks necessary and appropriate for library operations/other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree preferred or Associate’s degree with library experience
Enjoys working with children and teens
Experience with working with children and teens
Demonstrated proficiency in working with the public
Excellent language skills
Ability to perform a variety of library tasks
Creativity in writing and program planning/new and innovative ideas are encouraged.
Knowledge of computer and library-related software such as Canva and Atriuum (although training will be provided)
Good attention to detail
Willingness to maintain and increase professional skills through continuing education

Salary: $43,000 - $46,000 per year
