Children's Librarian (Part-time), Paul Memorial Library, Newfields, NH

Job Description:
The Paul Memorial Library is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and collaborative team member to serve as part-time children's librarian.
Reporting to the Library Director, this position performs a wide variety of general library work in technical and public service to assist patrons in daily operational needs of the library with a focus on children's services and programming.
In addition to regular circulation duties, the children's librarian will be responsible for planning and leading children's programming and assisting in children's collection development.
General library responsibilities include:
-Perform circulation functions, including checking materials in/out and organizing items for reshelving.
-Assist with interlibrary loan and preparing materials for circulation.
-Answer patron reference questions.
-Provide readers advisory and digital literacy assistance to the public.
-Assist with displays and other staff programs as needed.
-Other duties as assigned.
Children's specialist responsibilities include:
-Model best early literacy practices to children and guardians.
-Promote library services to children and guardians.
-Assist in the selection of children's materials for library collection.
-Coordinate children's service operations with other library services and functions, developing programs to meet specific needs of children and families.
-Lead weekly story times.
-Assist director in organizing the summer reading program.
-Maintain regular communication with school staff and day care staff and visit schools and other facilities for children when practical.
Programming
Children's programming plays an essential role in building positive library experiences and a strong literacy foundation for young children at this key stage of their development. The Children's Librarian should be comfortable working with children and parents, and developing dynamic and inclusive children and youth programming that is fun, engaging, and educational.
-Plan, execute and coordinate children's programs including craft programs, book groups, group tours, author visits and family entertainment.
-Plan, prepare, and deliver weekly story times to groups of children and guardians, including storytelling, music and movement, and arts and crafts.
-Evaluate children's programs and adjust based on community needs. 
Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):  
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree, and 1-3 years of experience in library services for children is preferred.
Relevant experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will also be considered. (e.g., School paras, daycare experience, childcare professionals, summer camp counselors, etc.) Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
-Ability to connect with children and provide a welcoming and safe environment.
-Comfortable working with youth of all ages, including pre-k, elementary, and teens.
-Knowledge of children’s interests and reading levels and of books and authors.
-Knowledge of early childhood development.
-Ability to work as a team.
-Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
-Ability to lift, carry & shelve library materials.
-Exemplary customer service and organizational skills.
-Strong technology and communications skills and attention to detail are a must.
-Knowledge of common computer applications with the ability to use/learn library software programs.
-Comfortable working with the public in busy situations.
-Masters of Library Science a plus.

Hiring Wage Range:
$20 per hour
Other Considerations/Requirements:
This is a 20 hour per week part time position with no benefits. Some nights and weekends are required. Exact shifts TBD.
