Library Assistant–Youth Services Department, Durham Public Library, Durham, NH

We’re looking for a creative, outgoing, and friendly individual to join our dedicated team. Candidates must enjoy working with children and teens, have strong communication skills, be computer literate, and feel comfortable assisting patrons of all ages—including leading storytimes. Ideal traits include confidence, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a love for kids!

Pay & Hours: $18.00 per hour/48 hours per two-week pay period (biweekly). Alternating weekly schedule:
Week 1:
• Tuesday: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
• Wednesday: 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM
• Thursday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• Friday: 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM
• Saturday: 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM 
Week 2:
• Tuesday: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
• Wednesday: 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM
• Thursday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Primary Job Responsibilities:
• Support the Youth Services Department by preparing crafts, designing displays, and maintaining children’s and teen areas.
• Assist with collection development for children’s and young adult materials.
• Provide excellent customer service and perform school and community outreach.
• Plan and deliver youth programs—including summer reading—in coordination with the Head of Youth Services.
• Assist patrons of all ages with reference and readers’ advisory.
• Handle materials processing, shelving, and circulation support.
• Maintain strong verbal/written communication and work effectively as part of a team.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
• BA/BS from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience engaging with individuals of all ages,
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently,
• Proficient with technology, including Canva, Microsoft and Adobe applications, and mobile devices,
• A good sense of humor!

Other: A full FBI background check with fingerprinting, at our expense, is required.
