Children's Librarian, Part-time, Hall Memorial Library, Northfield (NH)

Hall Memorial Library in beautiful Northfield, NH is looking for a positive, energetic individual to fill the role of Children’s Librarian.

The Children’s Librarian’s primary responsibility is the coordination and implementation (currently virtual) of the Library’s services for children, pre-school through 6th grade. The Children’s Librarian will have full supervision of the Children’s Area and maintain a quiet, safe, productive, and attractive environment. This position involves working directly with children and their parents or caregivers. It is important, therefore, that the person with this title genuinely enjoys working with children of all kinds. It is imperative that the person in this position appreciates and has knowledge of children’s literature, past and present. The right person for this position will be positive, enthusiastic and want to make their space the very best children’s area in any library!

This position will also involve some time at the Circulation Desk as well, but not as a primary assignment. This is a highly visible and responsible position, working out in the community and school system.
Above all, the person in this position should present a positive image of the “personality of the Library” – making all people feel welcome and accepted at the Library.

This is a 30 plus hour (not to exceed 34 hours) per week position, including some nights and every other Saturday. Some flexibility in scheduling is needed.  Required for this job are excellent customer service skills and an ability to perform duties effectively and independently.  The preferred candidate will hold a Master's Degree in Library Science plus three years of experience in a children's library service, OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting on the basis of one year of experience for each year of education.

It should be noted that due to the worldwide pandemic, library hours and staffing are currently dynamic and the right candidate will need to be a team player, flexible in their hours and able to pivot with the rest of us as changes occur!
