Position Summary:
Reporting to the Access Services Manager, the Library Assistant-Circulation performs a variety of paraprofessional and clerical services related to library circulation, including course reserves and interlibrary loan processing.
Job Responsibilities:
Provides direct support and supervision to student assistants, keeping them on task as needed.
Circulates library materials.
Answers patron inquiries, maintaining a strong service orientation at all times.
Assists with training of student assistants.
Prepares and processes interlibrary loan requests and materials.
Enforces library policies and guidelines in order to maintain an environment conducive to quiet study.
Maintains confidentiality in all situations relating to the University.
Adheres to the policies and procedures established by the University and the Library.
Exercises sound judgment and discretion, acting in an authoritative manner in enforcing University and Library policies.
Communicates effectively with patrons, student assistants, co-workers, supervisor, and members of outside organizations.
Uses tact, respect, and sensitivity when dealing with patrons, student assistants, and colleagues.
Presents a professional and positive demeanor.
Displays strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and multi-task with minimal supervision, and attention to detail.
Displays ability to trouble-shoot and identify solutions to resolve minor computer and printer/copier malfunctions.
Displays ability to accept supervision and constructive criticism.
Opens and closes the library.
Shelves materials and participates in stacks maintenance, including shifting and shelf-reading.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Access Services Manager or the University Librarian.

Requirements:
Skills and Qualifications:
One to three years of library experience preferred, including supervisory and circulation/public services experience.
Associates degree in related field (Bachelors preferred).
Knowledge of specialized library circulation software preferred.
Familiarity with Springshare software preferred.
Must successfully complete criminal background check.

Franklin Pierce University is seeking applicants for a PT Nights and Weekends Library Assistant/Circulation position.
Typical Schedule:
Expected work schedule during the academic year is at least two weekday evening shifts every week and one weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) shift every other weekend. During academic breaks and summer, daytime hours may be arranged as needed.
