Circulation/Technical Services, part-time, Hopkinton Twon Library, Contoocook, NH

 

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for greeting the public, checking materials in and out of the library, handling incoming phone calls, reserves, interlibrary loans, and overdue materials, and occasionally adding and deleting items from the electronic catalog.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general direction of the Director.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise and train pages and volunteers working same shift. 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Sees that library users receive the service and attention they require. 
  2. Checks library materials in and out. 
  3. Answers the telephone and routes calls to appropriate person.    
  4. Processes reserve materials and interlibrary loans and notifies customer when materials are ready.
  5. Calls customers about overdue materials. 
  6. Interprets library policies and procedures to the public.       
  7. May check in and process new library materials which may include Hopkinton Town Library stamp, date, barcodes, spine labels and pockets, adds items to system.
  8. May supervise and train volunteers and pages as required. 
  9. Performs and assists in other duties as requested.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate degree and experience in a public library.  Requires experience with computers. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND DESIRABLE ABILITIES:

 

  1. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely orally, both in person and over the telephone, and in writing.
  2. Commitment to excellence in public service.
  3. Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
  4. Skill in performance of technical library tasks. 
  5. Knowledge of computers and computer technology and experience in use of same.
  6. Ability to meet people easily and get along well with others.
  7. Ability to work in a setting requiring confidentiality.
  8. Ability and desire to learn new skills and increase knowledge of libraries.
  9. Adaptability and dependability to work well as part of a team and flexibility in emergency staffing situations. 
  10. Necessary attributes: mental curiosity, resourcefulness, patience, initiative, attention to detail, problem solving skills, maturity and decisiveness, oral and written communication skills.   

SCHEDULE: This is a part-time position, with one weekday evening (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday 3-6pm) and at least one weekend day.

 

LIBRARY HOURS: Tuesday through Thursday 10-6; Friday 10-5; Saturday 10-3; Sunday (September through May) 1-5; Closed Monday
