Youth Services Assistant, Baker Free Library, Bow, NH

 Job Description:

The Baker Free Library is searching for a friendly, creative, and customer-oriented individual to join our Youth Services team! The town of Bow, NH has a large, active and engaged youth population, and we’re eager to provide additional program opportunities with the addition of a Youth Services Assistant. In this position, the Youth Services Assistant will design and implement library programs for toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children, under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian.
In addition to providing reader’s advisory services, the Youth Services Assistant will perform storytime programs for toddlers and preschoolers, and host regularly scheduled events for children aged 5-12. Participation in occasional outreach programs and community-wide events, in the company of the Youth Services Librarian, is also anticipated.
Additionally, the Youth Services Assistant performs a variety of operational duties for the library, including circulation, reference and technology assistance for patrons of all ages.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Provides exemplary customer service and supports the Library’s values and mission. Has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with people of all ages. Has a desire to work in a public service role—especially with children and youth. Is able to foster and maintain working relationships with all members of the library team. Has experience developing and administering surveys and other evaluation tools to evaluate program outcomes. Is able to work alone, under supervision, and as part of a team. Has an understanding of child and youth cognitive development, public school programs, and children and young adult literature.

Experience
Experience providing early literacy services in a library or community setting. Experience at a public library working with schools, childcare providers, or afterschool programs. Experience working with children and youth ages 0-18.

Education
Bachelors degree in early childhood education (or similar field) or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Technology, Equipment, and Devices
This position requires proficiency with computers and commonly used office software, library systems, and databases. This position requires the employee to troubleshoot general office equipment and other technologies.

Schedule
This position has a varied work schedule established based on the needs of the Youth Services department. Programming may including daytime, evening, and weekend scheduling. This position is part-time at 16-18 hours per week depending on programming needs.

Hiring Wage:

$17.00 - $19.00 depending on qualification and experience
