Part-Time Story Time Specialist, Paul Memorial Library, Newfields, NH

 Job Description:

The Paul Memorial Library is looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Story Time Specialist to plan and lead our weekly preschool story hours.
Library story times play an essential role in building positive library experiences and a strong literacy foundation for young children at this key stage of their development. The Story Time Specialist should be comfortable working with children and parents, and developing dynamic and inclusive storytime programming that is fun, engaging, and educational.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
-Plans, prepares, and delivers story times to groups of children and childcare providers, including storytelling, music and movement, and arts and crafts.
-Models best early literacy practices to childcare staff and children.
-Promotes library services to childcare staff and children.
-Provides reader's advisory to children and guardians.
-Provides occasional desk coverage as needed.
-Attends staff meetings as called by the library director.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
Schedule: 6-8 hours/week. In person. Weekday morning and occasional Saturday availability. Exact shifts TBD.

Requirements:

 Skills and Qualifications

Understanding of child development and children's literature, acquired by at least one of the following ways: Bachelor's degree in library science or related field, associate degree, or two years' experience working with children, preferably in a library.

Experience designing and conducting children's programming, storytelling, or other creative skills preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills for effective interaction with patrons of all ages, co-workers and others using courtesy, tact and good judgment.

The library Story Time Specialist should:

Salary:

$16/hour
