The Epsom Public Library is seeking an outgoing, creative, organized, community- oriented person to fill the position of Library Director.
The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work with patrons of all ages and interests.
The Library Director will recognize the importance of the library as an essential community resource and as a community gathering place.
Our ideal candidate will be informed about emerging trends beyond traditional library services, will be comfortable with technology and willing to keep abreast of the latest developments useful in a library setting.
The library is located on Route 4 in Epsom, convenient to Concord, Manchester and Portsmouth.
Position Responsibilities
The Library Director is responsible for administering and maintaining the library for the residents of Epsom in accordance with community preferences, town and state regulations, and Trustee directives.
· Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the library.
· Administer and recommend changes in the policies of the library as established by the Trustees.
· Maintain required records, completing statistical and other reports for the Trustees, the town government, and the State Library.
· Supervise staff, volunteers, and temporary workers.
· Act as the library’s public relations representative in the community.
· Develop and coordinate library services to the community.
· Build, maintain and continually improve the library collection through selection and de-selection of materials.
· Provide reference and reader service to library patrons in person and via mail, telephone, and electronic media.
· Recommend and maintain an annual budget for the library.
· Aid and assist the public in the use of library materials.
· Monitor and maintain familiarity with state and federal programs which may affect the library.
· Act as the library’s representative with area libraries and literacy-oriented groups, as requested by the Trustees.
· Regularly attend Trustee and Friends of the Library meetings.
· Ensure the library’s technical needs are identified and met.
· Continue to improve on professional knowledge and skills through professional literature, workshops, seminars, and conferences and appropriate coursework.
· Other duties as may be assigned by the Trustees.
Qualifications
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college; library science degree or experience in
library operations desirable.
· Ability to work closely with Trustees and other town officials.
· Ability to work with associates and library users in a courteous, professional manner.
· Attention to detail.
· Knowledge of computers and library-related software.
Salary
$54,000 – 60,000 commensurate with experience. Full-time (35 hours) salaried position with benefits package, including health care, dental coverage, sick and annual leave as well as enrollment in the NH retirement system.
