The University of Maine Libraries seeks a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as Head of the Collection Services Department. This position offers the opportunity to shape the future of academic collections at UMaine, as well as oversight of Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and Cataloging and Metadata management. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to ensure equitable access to scholarly resources, support research and teaching needs, and foster an inclusive, user-centered approach to collection development.
As a member of the library leadership team, this role contributes to overall planning as well as policy development and strategic initiatives for Fogler Library in Orono and Merrill Library in Machias. The position also provides oversight for University of Maine System Libraries (UMSL)-wide acquisitions and resource-sharing partnerships, ensuring UMaine remains at the forefront of academic library services. Typical hiring range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
Master's degree in Library & Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
Demonstrated leadership experience in academic library collection development, acquisitions, or resource management.
Experience managing budgets for library acquisitions and negotiating license agreements for electronic resources, including consortium (system and/or regional) level acquisitions and e-licensing.
Working knowledge of bibliographic utilities and integrated library systems with an emphasis on collection management, including experience with automated library systems analysis.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with faculty, librarians, and external partners.
