Position Purpose:

This position requires both Saturday and Sunday hours on rotation. We are open Sundays mid-October through mid-May.

The Children’s Librarian will have full supervision of the Children’s Area and maintain a quiet, safe, productive, and attractive environment. This position involves working directly with children and their parents or caregivers. It is important, therefore, that the person with this title genuinely enjoys working with children of all kinds. It is imperative that the person in this position appreciates and has knowledge of children’s literature, past and present. The right person for this position will be positive, enthusiastic and want to make their space the very best children’s area in any library!

This position will also involve some time at the Circulation Desk as well, but not as a primary assignment. This is a highly visible and responsible position, working out in the community and school system.
Above all, the person in this position should present a positive image of the “personality of the Library” – making all people feel welcome and accepted at the Library.

This is a 30 plus hour (not to exceed 34 hours) per week position, including some nights and every other Saturday. Some flexibility in scheduling is needed.  Required for this job are excellent customer service skills and an ability to perform duties effectively and independently.  The preferred candidate will hold a Master's Degree in Library Science plus three years of experience in a children's library service, OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting on the basis of one year of experience for each year of education.

It should be noted that due to the worldwide pandemic, library hours and staffing are currently dynamic and the right candidate will need to be a team player, flexible in their hours and able to pivot with the rest of us as changes occur!

General Summary: This is a part-time, 12-15 Hour/week position that will require some nights and weekend hours in a rotating schedule. The Library Associate will be responsible for delivery of friendly, high-quality public service in a public library setting.   Performs routine tasks associated with the operations of the Nesmith Library.  This position performs duties requiring adherence to standards of accuracy, timeliness, tact and confidentiality.  Primary responsibility is meeting the public, checking in and checking out library materials, processing library card applications, assisting the public with other library services and answering questions both in person and over the phone

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree.  Previous library or customer service work experience preferred. Other combinations of education and work experience may be considered.

Seeking Per-Diem Library Assistant

The Davis Public Library in Stoddard, NH is seeking a cheerful and friendly per-diem library assistant to provide excellent customer service to our community. We are looking for flexible and reliable on call individuals for staff coverage.

Our hours of operation are:
Mondays 3-7 PM
Tuesdays/Wednesdays 1-5 PM
Thursdays 10 AM - 5 PM
Fridays 3-7 PM
Saturdays 10 AM- 2 PM

Pay: $12/hr

Responsibilities:

  • Create a friendly, welcoming environment.
  • Perform circulation desk procedures, such as checking in and checking out materials, registering patrons.
  • Shelve library materials and organize/neaten shelves.
  • Assist patrons with reference questions and reader advisory.
  • Assist patrons with operation of library equipment and technology.
  • Maintain daily library statistics.
  • Follow library procedures and policies.
  • Perform other related work as required.

Requirements:

  • HS Diploma required, college degree preferred
  • Excellent computer skills with a willingness to learn new technology
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
