Library Assistant, (P/T), Kingston Community Library, Kingston, NH

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following functions are considered essential to this position, and are indicative of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position, but are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other library-related projects and duties will be assigned when needed and appropriate.

 

·         Check in/out library materials to patrons

·         Shelve books

·         Answer phone

·         Record meeting room bookings

·         Assist patrons in locating and selecting materials using the library catalog

·         Promote library activities and services to patrons

·         Assist all patrons accessing and utilizing the library’s computers and online resources

·         Assist patrons with photocopier machine and fax

·         Receive money from patrons for fines, copies, ongoing book sale, and other income sources

·         Examine materials on shelves to verify accuracy of placement (shelf-reading & shifting as needed)

·         Identify materials in need of repair/replacement, mend print materials according to accepted practice

·         Empty external book-drop as needed

·         Assist with processing new materials purchased by the library

·         Attend monthly staff meetings

 

 

Other Training, Skills and Experience Requirements:

Familiarity with computers, clerical skills, interpersonal skills, phone skills, ability to communicate clearly, ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, use of discretion with regard to patron privacy, tact in handling displeased customers and providing a positive customer service experience for all patrons. Library experience and college degree strongly preferred.  

 

Physical, Cognitive and Sensory Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, push, pull and reach at and above should height.

Vision – Necessary for visual operation in all aspects of the position such as equipment use, observance of patron behavior, paperwork, observing safety of co-workers, public, etc.

Hearing – Necessary for receiving instructions and requests from customer, and for communicating on the telephone,

Talking – Necessary for communicating with employees, residents, and the general public.

Taste and Smell – Necessary for detecting fumes and gases.

Dexterity – Necessary for operating equipment, handwriting, computer keyboard operations, etc.

Mobility – Needed to walk around the library, in the meeting and storage areas.

 

Schedule: May vary within library open hours 13-23 hours. Currently scheduled Monday & Friday 2-6, Tuesday % Thursday 2-7:30, and one Saturday a month.

 

Starting pay: $14.50/hr plus 2 weeks vacation and sick time.
