The Rye Public Library is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and highly organized self-starter to join our youth department. Our newly hired librarian will work primarily with children, focusing on story times and programming for our younger population, but also should be ready to serve and meet the needs of youth of all ages. Interested parties should be prepared to create and run programs for our wonderful youth population, and will also be responsible for some administrative tasks as well as other duties as assigned.
This position will include 15 hours per week.
Primary responsibilities include the development and implementation of youth programs with a focus on children’s programming as well as overseeing ongoing programming already in place; passion for working with children is a must! The position will also require shelving, working at the circulation desk, and other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate possesses
• The ability to work independently and is a self-starter
• A working knowledge of and enthusiasm for children’s literature
• A passion for working with youth of all ages
• An understanding of the daily operations of a library
• Excellent organizational, readers' advisory, and interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience in children’s programming or similar experience
• The ability to manage events with large groups of people
• Strong public speaking skills
• An understanding of and capacity for using emerging technologies
• Experience with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher
