Library Assistant, Youth Services - Weeks Public Library, Greenland, NH

The Weeks Public Library is seeking a library assistant to join our outstanding Youth Services team. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with youth of all ages and have familiarity with children’s literature. Responsibilities include circulating items, making reading suggestions for all ages, assisting with organization of all children’s room projects and creating a welcoming atmosphere for families. They must also be able to comfortably multitask while maintaining strong attention to detail.

The Weeks Public Library underwent a substantial expansion in 2021, giving Youth Services space to grow, and they have! We host 20-30 Youth Services programs a month and enjoy a close relationship with the local school which is next door. Our pre-school and after-school programs draw significant attendance from children and parents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Staffs circulation desk as scheduled. Interacts with library patrons of all ages, answers phone, assists patrons and callers with routine questions and directs them to appropriate departments or staff. Explains routine library policies.
Processes new library cards, library checkouts, renewals, returns, holds and registrations, utilizing the integrated library system.
Provides quality customer service to patrons and helps with basic reference, reader’s advisory, program recommendations, and community connections.
Monitors and maintains orderliness of Children's Room and collection; collects and moves books and other materials as required.
Participates in promoting all library events and services by actively engaging with patrons and referring them to our printed and online resources.
Assists with opening and closing procedures and tasks. Ensures all safety procedures are followed and the building is secure.
Stays informed of all events and assists with maintaining rooms, calendars, and staff communication.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Previous library work experience with children preferred.
Other combinations of education and work experience may be considered.
