Circulation & Outreach Librarian (Full-Time, 30 hours/week), Wilton Public & Gregg Free Library, Wilton, NH

The Circulation & Outreach Librarian is responsible for providing consistent, high-quality public service at the circulation desk while carrying out adult programming, outreach, communications, and daily library operations. Because circulation staff are often the first point of contact for patrons, this position plays a critical role in creating a welcoming, respectful, and supportive experience for all members of the community.
The position requires familiarity with all facets of circulation processes and public service procedures, including customer service, workflow consistency, data accuracy, and patron privacy. The Circulation & Outreach Librarian works closely with the Library Director to support daily circulation operations, assist with scheduling and coverage, and carry out adult programming, outreach, and public communications with approval of the Library Director. Flexibility, initiative, strong communication skills, and a commitment to public service are essential.

Applicants must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. A library degree and prior library or customer service experience are preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Circulation & Public Service
• Provide regular coverage at the circulation desk
• Greet patrons in a courteous, professional, and welcoming manner
• Perform circulation functions including check-in/check-out of materials, holds, renewals, and patron account assistance
• Respond to incoming phone inquiries in a professional and courteous manner
• Provide information to patrons regarding Library services, programs, hours, and policies
• Assist patrons with library services, policies, and basic technology questions
• Protect patron confidentiality and privacy at all times
• Support consistent application of Library policies and procedures

Scheduling & Operational Coordination
• Assist the Library Director with circulation desk scheduling and daily coverage needs
• Help coordinate schedule adjustments and substitutions as needed
• Communicate service issues, operational concerns, or workflow challenges to the Library Director
• Assist with onboarding and training of circulation staff as assigned

Adult Programming
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate adult programs in collaboration with the Library Director
• Provide logistical support for adult programs, including room setup, breakdown, and staff presence
• Promote adult programs and events through approved communication channels
• Track attendance and assist with gathering feedback

Outreach, Marketing & Communications
All outreach, marketing, and communications activities are carried out with approval of the Library Director.
• Update and maintain Library website content
• Create and distribute Library communications, including newsletters and social media content (Instagram, Facebook, and the Library website)
• Promote Library programs, services, and events through approved communication channels
• Prepare, update, and post posters, signage, and flyers throughout the Library
• Update the exterior front sign
• Create and maintain displays highlighting new books and featured Library materials
• Coordinate Rotunda art displays and related signage

Administrative & General Duties
• Assist with collection and reporting of circulation, program, and outreach statistics
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming public service environment
• Communicate regularly with the Library Director regarding priorities and responsibilities
• Perform other related public service, outreach, and communication duties as assigned to support Library operations
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, and move throughout the Library
• Ability to lift and move library materials (up to approximately 25 pounds)
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as shelving and computer work
