The Trustees of the Thornton (NH) Public Library seek to fill the position of full-time Library Director. The library is unique: a combination school and public library.
The Library plays an important role in the Town participating in community events and serving as a hub for information. It is often the first stop for new residents. Many community members use the Library for internet access and printing.
The Library Director has full administration of the library, including but not limited to collection development, complete and accurate recordkeeping of all library transactions, interlibrary loans, reviewing financial transactions with the Treasurer, preparing a yearly budget with Trustees, developing reading and library skills’ programs for the school, and overseeing a staff of three (3) part-time employees.
Thornton Public Library has an enthusiastic Friends of Library organization that you will interact with in their fundraising endeavors and volunteer activities.
This is a full-time salaried, exempt position with benefits, including some evening meetings and periodic Saturdays on a scheduled basis.
Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
Must have knowledge of library principles and procedures. Familiarity with automated library software (Destiny Quest used in Thornton). Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, especially with children.
Excellent computer skills with experience in Word, Google Docs, and spreadsheets. Experience using Constant Contact is a plus.
Able and comfortable in assisting patrons with use of fax, copier and printers from hand-held devices.
Bachelor’s degree in education, library sciences, or equivalent library experience.
