The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (M.B.L.C.) seeks an experienced library professional to join our agency as the Head of Library Advisory and Development. This is an opportunity to be part of a talented and dynamic team of professionals who support library services across the Commonwealth.
This position reports to the Director of the Board of Library Commissioners, supervises a team of Library and Advisory Development staff and consultants, and oversees the M.B.L.C.’s federal Library Services and Technology Act (L.S.T.A.) program. The Head of Library Advisory and Development is a member of the agency’s management team, provides advisory services to public library directors, trustees, and friends, guides the provision of services to special populations, and guides the provision of preservation and disaster recovery services to libraries.
We’re looking for someone who is a flexible, forward-focused leader and an experienced and collaborative-minded manager who can thrive in an environment of change. The successful candidate will be able to direct a strong, cohesive team, communicate clearly and effectively; and skillfully organize and manage multiple simultaneous projects with competing deadlines.
This is a hybrid role, with partial in-office and partial work from home time.
Qualifications:
Applicant must have at least:
a) five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in library administration
b) of which at least three years must have been in a managerial or supervisory capacity; or
c) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below:
I. A Master’s degree with a major in Library Science may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (a) experience.*
II. A completed Doctorate or course work completed and a dissertation in progress with a major in library science, public administration, or a related discipline may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (a) experience.
*Education toward a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of two years of the required (a) experience. No substitutions will be permitted for the required (b) experience.
Salary Range: $85,967 - $132,295
