Library Assistant (Part-Time-Saturdays 9am-2pm), North Hampton Public Library, North Hampton, New Hampshire

Our beautiful, modern library is seeking a friendly, reliable, and patient Part-Time Library Assistant who loves books and people. You'll be the friendly face of our library, helping patrons of all ages and supporting all daily operations. This role is perfect for someone who is a great communicator, comfortable with technology, and enjoys a dynamic environment.

The schedule is 3-4 Saturdays per month (9am-2pm) with occasionally filling in other shifts, if needed. This is an ideal job for someone learning to get some library experience on a very part-time basis.

What You'll Do
Circulation & Patron Services: Greet patrons, manage check-ins and check-outs, handle payments, and register new members. You'll also place holds and interlibrary loan requests, and help people locate materials.

Customer Support: Assist patrons with using public computers, printers, scanners, and other basic technology. Answer basic reference questions using our online and print resources. You will also respond to questions about customer accounts and library events.

Collection Management: Shelve books and other materials, empty the book drop, and inspect returned items for damage. You'll also help with shelf-reading, weeding outdated materials, and preparing incoming and outgoing transfers.

Reader's Advisory: Stay up-to-date on popular reading trends to provide timely and engaging book recommendations. You'll also help create displays, book lists, and book reviews.

Behind-the-Scenes Tasks: Attend staff meetings, process and repair materials, and maintain a tidy and welcoming environment.

Who You Are:
You have a college degree or equivalent experience.
You're proficient with modern technology (software, apps, devices) and are a fast learner.
You're motivated, resourceful, and can solve problems independently.
You have excellent interpersonal skills and love working as part of a team.
Library experience is a plus, but not required—we're happy to train the right person.

Physical Requirements:
This role involves standing for extended periods, as well as bending, squatting, and lifting up to 40 pounds. You should be able to push and pull carts and reach shelves at all heights.

Hiring Wage Range:
$15.50-$18.50 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
