The Manchester City Library Board of Trustees seeks a forward-thinking, experienced Library Director to lead a dynamic and essential community institution in the Queen City.
The Manchester City Library is a cornerstone of the community, offering a welcoming space for lifelong learning, cultural enrichment, and civic engagement. We serve a diverse population of over 115,000 residents and play a vital role in supporting education, workforce development, and access to information for all.
The Library Director will provide visionary leadership, champion innovative services and foster strong community partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a passion for public service, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and the ability to motivate staff, engage stakeholders, and advance the Library’s mission. The candidate also needs to have an understanding of library consortiums and their governance.
The ideal candidate will have a high level of emotional intelligence, as well as demonstrated experience collaborating with community organizations, municipal leaders, state leaders and educational partners. The successful candidate will possess strong skills in strategic planning, grant writing and administration, staff development, public engagement, and fiscal management. A commitment to intellectual freedom, equitable access to information, and responsive public service is essential.

Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
The full-time (40 hours) salaried, exempt position requires a master's degree in Library and Information Science and a minimum of 6 years of administrative and management experience in a public library setting.

Salary range $114,000-$162,000
