Youth Services Assistant, Moultonborough Public Library, Moultonborough, New Hampshire

Do you love working with youth and enjoy helping others? Are you passionate about reading and creating a sense of community? The Moultonborough Public Library is seeking a friendly and creative Youth Services Assistant to join the staff. In this role, the Youth Services Assistant will work closely with the Head of Youth Services to create a welcoming environment and help inspire the next generation of readers.

Specific Duties
This is a part-time (20-24 hours/week) position that assists with daily operations in the youth services department and from time to time at the front circulation desk. The Youth Services Assistant will:
Connect through Programs: Help with brainstorming, planning, and running library programs for youth, from toddlers to teens.

Be the Guide: Help kids, parents, and teachers find exactly what they need, offering reader's advisory and connecting them with learning resources.

Spread the Word: Help youth and families find out about upcoming events and initiatives through eye-catching library displays, social media posts, and newsletters to promote our events.

Shape the Collection: Help recommend exciting new books and media, and keep our current collection looking great by helping to process books, shelve items, and organize materials.

Qualifications Required
A Service-First Mindset: You are welcoming, professional, and excel at building relationships with a diverse public.

Love for reading: You have an interest in youth literature and knowledge of or interest in learning current reader interests, books, and authors across a variety of genres.

Technology Skills: You are comfortable with Google, library software, and basic office hardware.

Problem-Solving Skills: You take initiative, work well independently, and are not afraid to ask questions when needed. You also work well and collaboratively with other staff.

Adaptability: You can shift priorities in a fast-paced environment and are willing to work a varied schedule, including evenings and Saturdays.

Education: A high school diploma is required. A Bachelor’s degree and prior library/service experience is preferred.

Experience: 1-3 years experience working directly with youth, preferably in a library or similar setting.

Starting Wage: $18 per hour to start.

Position Details
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9a.m.-2p.m. with one Saturday per month 8:45a.m.-1p.m. Flexibility to work additional hours during youth events preferred.
