Adult Services Librarian, (Part-Time), Hopkinton Town Library, Hopkinton, (NH)

 

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the provision of Adult Services including the development of user aids, through traditional as well as current and emerging technological methods, and the promotion of these services to meet community needs.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general direction of the Director.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Responsible for any staff on evenings or weekends worked.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Answers reference questions and assists the public in locating and interpreting library resources, including online resources.
  2. Advises community members in the use of technology, including computers and devices, in one-to-one situations and through classes.
  3. Maintains and troubleshoots library software and online databases.
  4. Develops, plans, and executes programs and bibliographies, pathfinders, displays and other user aids.
  5. Identifies technology needs and makes recommendations.
  6. Interprets library policies and procedures to the public.
  7. Develops, plans, and executes programs and bibliographies, displays and other user aids.
  8. Supervises staff and volunteers as required.
  9. Reads professional literature, is aware of new library trends, practices, and technological developments.
  10. Recommends changes in reference policies and procedures to the Director.
  11. Performs and assists in projects as required. Duties may vary at the discretion of the Director.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school or comparable experience.

2.  Two years experience in public library reference work or related experience with a

     demonstrated development of library skills.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND DESIRABLE ABILITIES:

 

  1. Basic knowledge of modern library organizations, methods, procedures, policies, aims and services.
  2. Commitment to excellence in public service.
  3. General knowledge of library materials.
  4. Elementary skill in the performance of technical library tasks.
  5. Knowledge of computers and computer technology and experience in use of same.
  6. Must be able to read and write fluent English.
  7. Ability to meet people easily and get along well with others.
  8. Ability to learn new skills and increase professional knowledge.
  9. Adaptability and dependability to work well in a team situation and flexibility in emergency staffing situations.
  10. Necessary attributes: mental curiosity, resourcefulness, initiative, good memory, attention to detail, problem solving skills, maturity and decisiveness, oral and written communication skills.

 

SCHEDULE: This is a part-time position, 8-15 hours per week, including some evening and weekend hours.

 

LIBRARY HOURS: Tuesday through Thursday 10-6; Friday 10-5; Saturday 10-3; Sunday (September through May) 1-5; Closed Monday

Security Guard - (Part-Time), Nashua Public Library, Nashua, (NH)

SCHEDULE:                         Monday-Thursday 9AM – 12 PM, Saturday 9AM-5:30PM

                                                Some Sundays 12:30-4:30 PM (Overtime)

 

STARTING SALARY:     Not to Exceed $18.28 per hour

                                       Job Grade 2            

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

 

This part time position is responsible for enforcing the library’s code of conduct and maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere for staff and customers.  This position acts as liaison with police and fire departments when needed. Duties include patrolling building and grounds, responding to emergencies, documenting incidents, opening and closing the facility, assisting in snow removal and maintenance duties, and providing general operations support when needed.

 

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

 

Applicant should have clearly demonstrated experience in working directly with members of the public, enforcing policies, communicating with a diverse population and handling disturbances and emergencies. An Associate’s degree and at least one year of experience in security or related social services experience OR a high school diploma and 3 years of related experience are required.   Bilingual candidates strongly preferred.

Library Assistant, Nashua Public Library, Nashua, (NH)

PRIMARY DUTIES

Part-time position in the Customer Services department at Nashua Public Library. Schedule includes evening and daytime shifts, every Saturday and some Sundays.  This person will work at various service desks in the library performing all duties related to the circulation of library materials including providing curbside delivery; assisting customers at our self-check kiosks and shelving library materials.  Other direct customer services provided by this position include: answering telephone calls and emails related to account support, assisting customers to place holds, reserve meeting rooms and use associated technology as well as providing general information about library services. 

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

BS/BA and 1 year of public library experience OR High School diploma or equivalent and three years of library experience required. Proficiency and experience with MS Office and demonstrated ability in using computers and helping others use technology. Must be able to learn new skills quickly and handle difficult situations with tact. The successful candidate will be able to work cooperatively as a team member as well as independently. The ability to work with a diverse public in a fast-paced environment is a must. Bilingual candidates are strongly preferred. Must be able to push or pull carts; do a moderate amount of bending, squatting, lifting, stretching.  Curbside delivery requires the ability to work outdoors for brief periods of time year round.
