Come join our team in this brand-new position! The Durham Public Library is searching for a creative, outgoing, and friendly person to join our staff to help plan and promote adult programming and assist with community outreach in the Durham community.
The ideal candidate for this position has library or public service experience with working knowledge in planning and marketing events using technology and social media.
Pay and Hours: $18.00 per hour/24 hours per week. This part time position requires one evening per week and Saturdays on rotation as well as a planning and implementing scheduled programs for adults.
Job Summary: The primary function of this position is to plan, implement, and market adult programming using the Library’s marketing and outreach platforms including the website, newsletter and social media platforms. The job also includes circulation and patron services activities.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
· Plan, implement and maintain programming for adults in accordance with the Library’s budget, mission and
strategic goals.
· Design, create and print media in the form of posters, brochures, and other promotional materials for library programming and events.
· Create and update programming content for the Library’s marketing tools including the website, newsletter, and social media platforms. Submit marketing materials to media outlets in multiple formats.
· Seek out and engage regional artists as featured artists in the Library’s gallery.
· Develop connections and opportunities to collaborate and partner with other local groups, organizations, schools and libraries in the community to highlight the Library’s presence in the community.
· Patron service including recommending and circulating library materials and assisting patrons with library related technology, digital resources and devices.
Minimum Qualifications
A BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university or a combination of college and relevant work experience.
· Experience working with people of all ages.
· Good organizational skills; ability to work independently; and possession of a good sense of humor.
· Solid computer skills including a familiarity with software applications such as Canva, Microsoft products, Adobe products and mobile devices including smartphones, e-readers, and tablets.
· A full FBI background check with fingerprinting is required.
