Youth Services Library Aide, Chester Public Library , Chester, (NH)

 

NOTE: This position is part-time and does not include benefits.

The Chester Public Library, located in beautiful Chester, New Hampshire, is looking for a creative, forward thinking self-starter, and team player to fill the position of Youth Services Library Aide. The Youth Services Library Aide will assist the Library Director in planning, organizing, and administering the library’s programs, services and collections, with focus on but not limited to youth services. This is an on-site position. Not eligible for remote work.

DUTIES:

·         Develops programming for children, teens and adults. Works with Library Aides and Director to accomplish related tasks and promote youth services.

·         Creates and implements story hour programming.

·         Develops and manages the Summer Reading Program.

·         Prepares crafts, designs bulletin boards and displays, and assists in the general upkeep and organization of the youth area. 

·         Outreach to the schools and community is an extremely important aspect of this job.

·         Prepares press releases, newsletters and maintains assigned social media sites.

·         Proficiency in children’s and teen literature, social media, downloadable technology, Microsoft Office products and strong customer service are a must.

·         Assists in circulation and day-to-day library operations including assisting patrons with locating materials, reader’s advisory and reference services.

·         Flexibility, excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork are essential.

·         The ability to multi-task, follow-through and work in an environment with competing demands upon your attention is necessary.

·         Maintains positive public relations with patrons and community.

·         Assists Director in recruitment and supervision of volunteers.

·         Performs or assigns other duties as assigned by the Director.

·         Sense of humor is a plus!

Qualifications and skills: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years working with children and library experience preferred. Knowledge of children’s literature, automated integrated library systems and emerging technologies.  Experience in education and working with children from birth to age 18 is strongly desired. Background check is required.

This position is approximately 20 hours a week. Compensation commensurate with experience.
