Library Assistant, Part-time

Do you enjoy working with people? Do you love books and movies? Do you want to be part of a team dedicated to serving the community? The Paul Memorial Library in Newfields is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative team member to serve as part-time Library Assistant.
Reporting to the Library Director, this position performs a wide variety of general library work in technical and/or public service to assist patrons in the daily operational needs of the library with the goal of providing exceptional service to all.
Responsibilities:
Perform circulation functions, including checking materials in/out and organizing items for re-shelving.
Provide quality customer service to patrons by offering assistance with basic reference, reader’s advisory, program recommendations, community connections, referrals to other resources, and tech instruction.
Promote all library events and services by actively engaging with patrons and referring them to printed and online resources.
Provide technical support for digital media collections, Internet use, and office applications, including mobile printing and copying.
Assist with interlibrary loan and prepare materials for circulation.
Coordinate book orders for monthly book groups.
Assist with displays and lead or support programs as needed.
Minimum requirements (training, skills, education, experience):
Education/Experience: This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and prior library work experience is preferred (or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities). Program or event planning experience is preferred. Experience working with children and/or adult services is a plus.
Skills:
Communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Assisting patrons with various library services and operations.
Using a computer and standard library applications and platforms.
Sorting and categorizing library books and materials in standard order.
Making change in money.
Candidates should also work well with others, especially on a small, close-knit team. Strong technology, problem-solving, and communications skills are a must. They must also be able to comfortably multitask while maintaining strong attention to detail.
Physical requirements:
Perform the duties of the position while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, bending, or crouching.
Frequently lift light and occasionally heavy objects.

Hiring Wage Range:
$18
Other Considerations/Requirements:
Schedule: 20 hours/week. In person. Weekday and occasional weekend availability. Exact shifts TBD.
