Saint Anselm College, a private, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking a part-time Reference Librarian to join a collaborative team in the Geisel Library's Reference and Instructional Services department to begin on or about January 21, 2026. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong service orientation coupled with enthusiasm for supporting the research needs of our community. This position reports to the Head of Reference & Instructional Services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and timely reference and research services to students, faculty, staff, alumni, monks, and guests with their information and research needs in-person, and via chat, text, email, and phone.
- Conduct database searches as well as a wide range of general reference support including instruction and assistance in the use of print and electronic books and journals, physical and streaming media, and web resources.
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of online subject guides and research tutorials.
- Carry out special projects promoting library resources and information literacy skill building.
- Stay current with evolving information technologies and how they may be employed to advance the library’s mission.
This is a part-time, 32-week (16 weeks per fall and spring semester) hourly staff position. The position is 14 hours per week -- 2-10pm Sundays and Mondays -- providing in-person reference services at our Reference Desk during working hours. Remote and/or hybrid work is not available.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Knowledge of major research resources used in academic libraries.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to solve patron concerns and difficulties with tact, courtesy, and sound judgment.
- Must be reliable and hard-working.
- Demonstrated capacity for embracing change and new initiatives, programs, and services.
- Proven history of working in a collegial environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Strong office and computer skills.
