The Peterborough Town Library is seeking a Teen Librarian to join our youth services team. The right person will enjoy working with youth in middle school and high school, be innovative and tenacious with new program ideas, and have a professional background in library science and/or services. This leadership role assists with youth programming, oversees assigned areas of collection development, and contributes to the daily operations of Youth Services.
This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and creative library professional to build a supportive space and community for middle school and high school age patrons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted adult to our youth and build supportive networks to create opportunities for them to learn, connect, and grow.
- Regularly serves on Youth Services Desk providing reference and reader advisory services.
Middle School and Young Adult Programming:
- Develops, conducts, and evaluates programs for youth with a focus on middle schoolers and young adults.
- Develops marketing strategies to promote youth programs, the collection, and other services including assisting with library social media and newsletters.
- Works collaboratively with the Head of Youth Services Librarian to develop and conduct the summer reading program and special events for youth, on-site and off-site.
Community Outreach:
- Collaborates closely with Head of Youth Services to plan and implement outreach efforts.
- Cultivates strong partnership with public and charter schools in Peterborough. Annually re-establishes connections and serves as active point-person for school faculty and staff.
Collection Development:
- Selects materials for Middle Grade and Young Adult collections consistent with the collection development policy.
Key Skills & Competencies
MLS or Paralibrarian certification at level 2 or higher preferred, or other combination of work and higher education.
Expert knowledge of public library science principles and practices.
Commitment to excellence in customer service and teamwork.
Highly motivated, creative and flexible with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently. Must enjoy collaboration.

$55,000-$58,000
