The Lebanon Public Libraries offer an opportunity for an IT Librarian who loves Linux, open-source infrastructure, and meaningful community work. You'll collaborate with a knowledgeable IT partner on a modern, well-considered technical stack, with the autonomy to make a real difference across two branches. Beyond the technical work, you'll be part of a welcoming Upper Valley community with an exceptional quality of life. Lebanon is home to Dartmouth Health, one of the region's premier medical complexes, and sits minutes from Dartmouth College, with easy access to the cultural and intellectual energy they bring, outstanding outdoor recreation across four seasons, and a region rich with restaurants, shops, arts, and community. Whether you're drawn by the technical challenge, the mission-driven environment, or the chance to put down roots in one of New England's most livable small cities, this is a position worth your serious consideration.
You'll be working alongside our existing IT Librarian in a collaborative role with real technical depth. Responsibilities include managing network infrastructure, servers, staff and public workstations, our integrated library system, web presence, and internal tooling across two branches.
Our open-source infrastructure runs primarily on Debian Linux, including staff desktops and laptops as well as servers, and spans a range of tools including Ansible, Proxmox, Docker, OPNsense, and FreeIPA, with AWS handling our cloud services and Koha as our integrated library system. If you're comfortable at the command line and energized by open-source infrastructure, you'll feel right at home.
This is a professional librarian position, which means you'll work regularly scheduled public service desk hours alongside your technical responsibilities. We're looking for someone who sees technology as a means of connecting people with information and who can communicate clearly with patrons and colleagues, as well as vendors and systems.
What You'll Do
At a high level, you'll be responsible for systems administration and infrastructure, networking, ILS and discovery services, web and digital services, automation and scripting, cybersecurity, technical support, and staff and patron training.
The successful candidate will hold an MLIS and bring 3–5 years of experience in IT systems administration, networking, or cloud services, ideally in a public library setting. Strong candidates will have hands-on experience with Linux systems administration, networking (VLANs, firewalls, DNS, DHCP), scripting (Bash, Python), automation tools (Ansible), and containerization (Docker). Familiarity with identity management, CMS platforms, and CI/CD workflows is a plus.
Just as important as the technical skills is the ability to work effectively with the public and communicate clearly across a wide range of technical backgrounds.
Full qualifications are listed in the City of Lebanon posting.
This job includes retirement, health and dental benefits. Personal days, vacation and sick leave, and paid holidays are also included.
Hiring Wage Range:
$1,638.07 - $2,210.82 week
This is a 40-hour full-time salaried position working regular library hours, including Saturdays periodically on a scheduled basis, with the possibility of emergency call-ins. A valid driver's license is required. This is not a hybrid or remote position.
Please send a cover letter and resume in addition to your city application at https://lebanonnh.gov/1414/Employment-Opportunities. The City of Lebanon is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. We encourage candidates of diverse backgrounds and abilities to apply.
