Youth Services Assistant (Part-time), Freedom Public Library, Freedom, New Hampshire

The Freedom Public Library is looking for a vibrant and creative, service-oriented part-time Youth Services Assistant, working in cooperation with the Library Director.  

Description of Duties: 
General 

• Perform checkouts, check ins, and patron registration as needed 
• Open and close the library as needed 
• Check and promptly respond to messages; including text, voicemail, and email 

Programming 
• Plan and implement Preschool Storytime program 
• Coordinate and promote the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program 
• Work with the Library Director to plan and implement STEAM Tuesdays 
• Work with the Library Director to coordinate Youth and Preschool Summer Reading Programs 
• Assists in school visits to the library, reading and engaging with the children 
• Make recommendations for materials to add to the picture book and juvenile collections. 
• Coordinate and provide supportive atmosphere for any youth programming volunteers 
• Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications and Skills:  
• A degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education or in Library Science with a focus on Youth Services, or similar preferred; a suitable combination of education and experience, skills, and abilities will also be considered 
• Enthusiasm for providing quality programming and services for children 
• The ability to work effectively in an environment with many distractions and interruptions  
• Ability to supervise and delegate volunteers as needed 
• Computer competence  
• Flexibility, excellent verbal and written communication skills, superior interpersonal skills, and a strong ability for teamwork  
• Satisfactory background check 

Schedule and Salary: 
This is an hourly position averaging 10-13 hours per week, Wednesday through Saturday. (There will be three working Saturdays per month, between the hours of 9:30-1:00.) Regular hours include prep time. Rate of pay is $19 per hour. This position offers paid holidays.

Literacy Program Coordinator, Nevins Library, Methuen, Massachusetts

The Nevins Library is seeking to fill a Full Time Librarian II-Literacy Program Coordinator position beginning in December 2026. The Nevins Library is a private non-profit organization that serves as the public library for the City of Methuen, a diverse community of 54,000. This position is responsible for the planning and execution of our English Language Literacy Program works closely with the Head of Reference Services. The Literacy Program Coordinator is responsible for training tutor-volunteers, matching tutors to students, testing student progress, facilitating Conversation groups, and is heavily involved with grant writing, reporting, and management. This position works closely with the Library Leadership Team, and can have supervisory responsibility for the building, staff and patron safety, as scheduled and as needed. This position works a flexible schedule, including some nights and Saturdays as necessitated by program scheduling needs. This position reports to the Assistant Library Director, and is primarily grant funded.

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week, includes nights and weekends. Flexible hours, as necessitated by program scheduling needs, exempt employee.

Minimum Education: A Master’s degree or other education in relevant field and/or other experience or skills that relate directly to this work.

• Flexible, self-motivated individual with teaching, budgeting, grant writing, and technology experience

GENERAL SUMMARY: This part-time position is ideal for individuals with an outgoing personality who are passionate about libraries. SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Customer Service:

Basic computer literacy and familiarity with common software and internet applications. Ability to work unsupervised, and collaboratively as part of a team. Passing a criminal background check is required.

Benefits:
Eight paid holidays (when holidays coincide with regularly scheduled work hours). 40 hours annual paid leave which can be used for vacation, illness, medical appointments or personal business.

Teen Services Librarian, Wells Public Library, Wells, Maine

The Town of Wells is seeking a full-time, energetic, team-oriented Teen Services Librarian who has a strong commitment to working with young adults. This position is responsible for creating welcoming spaces where teens feel comfortable and respected while providing library services including programming, collection development, and readers advisory. This position is also responsible for managing the behaviors of teens who visit the library. This is a 40 hour/week position that requires some evening and weekend hours.

Library Assistants are members of a Library's support staff. Their duties might include helping patrons find  materials, reshelving books, working the circulation desk, handling online requests and interlibrary loans, processing new Library cards and conducting inventory. Duties:

Job Specifications:
•    Computer skills sufficient to perform the functions of the online catalog and circulation modules of the Library’s Integrated Library System, and technical questions from patrons.
•    Desire to meet and serve the Library's user community.
•    Good clerical skills and attention to detail required.
•    Demonstrates appropriate flexibility in dealing with a diverse population.

Physical Demands:
The work is typically performed indoors while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. The employee frequently lifts objects and uses equipment requiring dexterity. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
