Library Assistant, Seabrook Library, Seabrook, NH

POSITION TITLE:  Library Assistant
GENERAL SUMMARY:  This is a regular part-time position, ideal for individuals who are passionate about libraries, enjoy interacting with patrons, and thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Customer Service:
o Greet and assist library patrons with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
o Provide information on library services, programs, and resources.
o Assist patrons in locating materials, using library equipment, and navigating digital resources.

2. Circulation Services:
o Check in and check out library materials, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
o Process library card applications and assist patrons with account inquiries.
o Handle fines, fees, and other circulation-related transactions.

3. Shelving and Collection Maintenance:
o Shelve library materials accurately according to the established classification system.
o Conduct shelf-reading and assist in maintaining the order and appearance of library collections.
o Perform routine collection maintenance tasks, including inventory and weeding.

4. Technology Assistance:
o Provide basic assistance to patrons in using library computers, printers, and other technology.
o Assist with troubleshooting common issues related to digital resources and equipment.

5. Program Support:
o Assist in the preparation and execution of library programs and events.
o Set up and organize materials for programs, workshops, and community activities.

6. General Administrative Tasks:
o Answer phone inquiries and direct calls to appropriate staff.
o Assist with opening and closing procedures, including securing the library space.

Schedule: This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends based on library needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework is a plus. Previous experience in customer service, preferably in a library or similar setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Basic computer skills and familiarity with common office software. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to pass SAU 21 criminal background check per RSA 189:13-a.
